YouTube: Georgian Gentleman

If you’ve read Mike Rendell‘s book, The Journal of a Georgian Gentleman, you’ll want to watch this excellent talk presented at Gresham College:

And if you don’t yet have Mike’s book, the talk will have you running out to get it! The link is at the bottom of his “talks” page, or go direct to YouTube (51 minutes); alas the question & answer period was cut from the video.

Nice section on Astley’s Circus; Richard Hall — the “Georgian Gentleman” — even retained a handbill for it:

Thanks so much for the kind comments and link! In fact the YouTube link is to the first talk I did for Gresham a year ago and there is rather more about Astley, and his amphitheatre, in the second talk which I gave last week. I am waiting for Gresham to put the televised version up on YouTube but it should be there within a few days!
If anyone is interested in Astley I brought out a book about him earlier this year – details at my website. Thanks again, Mike

Hi, Mike — thanks for letting people know about your Astley book; I’m interested in your silhouettes book, too! We’ll have to talk off-blog about your thoughts on electronic publishing (Georgian Gentleman is so wonderful in book form…).

I thought the talk was well-done, and quite interesting – so can’t wait to see more! Do post a link once it’s up. Fabulous of Gresham to film these talks.
